Economic and Social Council

Committee history:

The UN Charter established the  Economic and Social Council in 1945 as one of the main six organs of the United Nations. Nowadays, its system aims to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development-economic, social and environmental.

Topic: Global Impact of the Belt and Road Initiative.

China’s president Xi Jinping has raised an unprecedented initiative with the ambition to change the development and trade dynamics of the region and beyond, by jointly building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, most commonly referred to as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The international community has reacted positively to this initiative as they recognized it as a favourable strategy  to their interests. However, some states will take the risk of not reaching their political-economic purposes.

These differences can make some tensions between countries reappear,  threatening the environment and neglecting international security.
