Gender equality is a controversial matter that has been underestimated through the years. Femicides, wage gap and sexual harassment are some of the issues that women have to deal with in their daily life. Many people think there is equality among genders, but the reality is different. In 2010 the United Nations created United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of WOMEN to face the hassles that go against women’s integrity and is dedicated to the empowerment of women by taking every measure in order to ensure women’s rights. We as nations need to take action now more than ever so in the future, women can live without fear.

Topic: Female Genital Mutilation in the XXI Century.

Globally, this practice is recognized as a violation of the human rights and it is mainly presented in women and bisexual people.
The dangerous non-medical and non-religious removal of partial or even total female genital tissue, does not provide any kind of benefit. Facing several issues, pain and interference with the natural functioning of women’s bodies, can cause immediate and long-term health consequences.
Therefore, this violation addresses major social, cultural, religious, traditional and ethnic problems.
There are 4 types of FGM where every 100 million out of 140 million girls and women worldwide have been subjected.
Statistics show that in the 28 countries of Africa more than 101 million girls aged 10 years and older are living with the effects of FGM. Neverthless, the practice also exists in the USA as well as in the rest of America, Europe, and other countries.
Since 1997, great efforts have been made to counteract FGM but our goal is to totally erradicate it by the year 2030.
